To our male allies: a challenge (response to Shannon Drury)

Posted in Minnesota, Neal Krasnoff by Neal Krasnoff on September 16, 2012

I once wrote a scathing, sarcastic blog post about a phenomena known as “slutwalk”.

Watch what you say around fanatics.

Shannon Black (nee Drury) was the President of the Minnesota National Organization of Women. (With an approximately 2,400 members out of an estimated 2,693,810 females in Minnesota, that’s 0.0008911 percent. This provides some context of their importance.) After she defended and supported the publicy crude DFL candidate Al Franken - then attempts to smear me as an apologist for assaults on women – a response against her selective indignation and her intellectual dishonesty is mandatory. For starters: when I was a police officer, I saved or prevented more women from being attacked than she or any “slutwalker”[1]

I thought I could express my views with some safety using my Hebrew name (Nachman), however, Jordan Kushner’s (YM”SH) alleged use of my real name at TC Indymedia which resulted in a subsequent threat against me proved otherwise. I had emailed Mrs. Black (nee Drury), who is a public figure, to at least have the decency to redact my name from her vile diatribe because of a prior online threat against me (by leftists, btw).  She did not. She couldn’t even do that one decent act. She had forwarded her diatribe to other bloggers[2]. After talking to a female friend and my sister about the subject matter, I reconsidered my original post, emailed Drury, and told her I’d remove it and others  - as a gesture of good will. She refused. She is at war and I am the enemy. No quarter.

The cause of women’s rights could be better served by Mrs. Black (nee Drury) expressing her disgust about honor killings in the United States, the horrific execution of a teenaged girl in Iran, the girls who were buried alive and honor murder of a family in Pakistan, or the death threat against and subsequent voluntary disappearance of a female political cartoonist – [in other words,] fighting real oppression of women – instead of demanding that we take seriously women who parade down a public street as “sluts”. To make matters worse, Shannon Black (nee Drury)  expressed her support for and with Minnesota NOW endorsed Farheen Hakeem (YM”SH) for State Senate, a member of the Anti War Committee, an openly eliminationist and anti-Semitic organization. Mrs. Black (nee Drury) doesn’t appear to understand the concept that obsessive, singular condemnation of  Israel is not criticism: it instead calls into question the human right of Jews to be an independent, self-governing people, free from oppression by the rest of the world.

This is the voice of Minnesota feminism?

She hasn’t argued anything substantive except to vent her rage against men, using me as a proxy. In view of the facts of her behavior, her past statements, and her associations, I have concluded that she is an aggressive, unethical ideologue.

Normal, decent people have better things to do with their lives than concern themselves with fanatics who want to parade down the street dressed in their underwear and call themselves sluts. View them from afar.

Go about your business, treat people with decency and respect, and you won’t have any problems.

Footnotes:

[1] “slutwalker”: a woman who attends or supports a march in which women wear provocative clothing (to presumably protest assaults against women) and subsequently complains when noticed and inevitably ridiculed.
