Minnesota JCRC endorses treif

As of now, the JCRC of Minnesota and the Dakotas is not a Jewish communal organization that represents the entirety of Judaism in Minnesota.

The Board of Directors, without dissent, passed the following resolution:

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) board of directors voted without dissent on October 18th to oppose the proposed amendment to the Minnesota Constitution (“marriage amendment”), which would recognize marriage only as a union between a man and a woman.

Finally, it is worth noting that the JCRC strives to be a consensus-based organization that speaks to the values of the broader Minnesotan Jewish community.  Here, on the issue of gay marriage we know that according to a 2010 Pew Poll, 76% of American Jews favor marriage equality, which is more than any other religious group polled by Pew.  While we do not have polling data on the attitudes of Minnesotan Jews on this issue, the fact that the JCRC’s board of directors approved its resolution opposing the marriage amendment without dissent demonstrates that the attitudes of Minnesotan Jews are not substantially different than other American Jews.  For these reasons, the JCRC is proud to be one of the first 100 organizations and businesses to join Minnesotans United for Marriage, the official coalition standing up in united opposition to the marriage amendment.

That’s right, polling data – not Torah, the foundation of Judaism – determined the policy of a Jewish communal organization.

Accordingly, as a matter of principle, the JCRC is opposed to the marriage amendment or any other law which is without a secular legislative purpose and has the primary effect of either advancing or inhibiting religion.  See Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602 (1971).  Additionally, because the JCRC agrees with the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Loving v. Virginia that “[m]arriage is one of the “basic civil rights of man,” fundamental to our very existence and survival…”

Maintaining the primacy and importance of stable monogamous two-parent male and female marriages and families serves a secular purpose: the continuance of our American culture and our Republic (based largely upon Jewish and Christian morality, even if you don’t want to admit it). The context in which Loving v. Virginia was decided was that marriage between a man and a woman is fundamental to our very existence and survival, because only a man and a woman are able to consummate a marriage, procreate, and raise the next generation.  This is objective truth.

The JCRC alleges they are:

Dedicated to protecting Jewish interests and promoting Jewish values.

Are they?

Where was the JCRC when the anti-Semites, the left, the pro-jihadists were demonstrating in Loring Park when Jews in Israel defended themselves against missile attacks? Where were you when they were outside of AIPAC meetings intimidating Jews? Where were you when Hamas sympathizers were demonstrating on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol? Where were you? Safely in your Board meetings discussing what? Diversity? The redefinition of marriage?

Halakha states definitively that a marriage can only be contracted between a man and a woman and that throughout the Torah, the definition of “man” and “wife” is “male” and “female”. The Book of Vayikra, Parshas Acharei, specifies the types of behavior that is forbidden to Jews. Homosexuality is forbidden. Regardless of how the Rabbinical Authorities in Reconstructionist and Reform Judaism rule on the subject, or what polling data suggests, Torah stands as the final authority. Whether one is a pious Chasid, learned in Torah or a purely secular literalist, Judaism forbids ”same sex marriages”.

How can I trust you to defend Jews who oppose your politics? You have abandoned of the most basic Jewish family tradition which has sustained us through Greek Hellenism, Babylonian exile, Roman paganism, Christian oppression and expulsion, Muslim dhimmitude, pogroms, Nazi genocide, Ustashe slaughter, and Arab attacks.

Don’t you know what happened to people who supported Proposition 8 in California, the demonstrations outside churches, the threats against peoples livelihoods, the church invasion in Michigan? What will you do when Jews and synagogues are attacked for their beliefs in Torah during the Minnesota Amendment fight, when GBLT radicals realize that it is Torah that contains Leviticus and Deuteronomy? What will you do then? How will you defend us? What credibility will you have left? How could you legitimately defend us, now that you have clearly abandoned us?
