Welcome to the DFL Platform Commission. Now shut up.
The DFL Platform Commission was meeting today, I learned, so why not participate? At least let’s see what’s going on with this very important DFL Commission.
And so I drove to DFL Headquarters.
Out of the ENTIRE DFL IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA save for the Commission delegates themselves – I was THE ONLY ONE.
I said hello, sat down and said not a word. At the break, I asked for a list of the platform items that were agreed to for the state legislative priorities. No problem. The Commission got back from its break and began to address federal legistlative priorities. One of positions already adopted as a state priority and to be discussed as a federal priority was:
Support funding to make high-speed internet service available to all areas of Minnesota within two years.
I asked if I may add something, since I work in the field (I’m an DSL technician for an RBOC). I started to offer my expertise that “high speed” isn’t even defined, and….
…the chairwomen interrupted me and said that only people on the commission will be able to speak. In other words, even though I am obviously a DFLer who has knowledge of the subject matter and wishes to legitimately participant and perhaps help the Commission in their decision…
Chairwoman says: shut up.
I get up, reiterating to the group what a Commission member said earlier in the meeting about the DFL being its own worst enemy, and left. As I passed the front desk, I apologized for using a transitive verb said as I walked down the hall. I left the building, and that’s that. Having some officious chairwoman who wouldn’t know a VPN concentrator if it fell on her telling me – a broadband tech – to shut up and not be able to offer legitimate advice was just too much.
Yeah. Let’s participate in the process. Don’t make me friggin’ laugh.
This, BTW, happens after some “we can be self-righteously indignant” SCC Delegates tried to get me banned from the dfl-state central list serve. They failed, and that will be for a another post.
UPDATE: My post didn’t make it to dfl-state-central. Am I banned?
UPDATE: I am indefinitely suspended.
