Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow DFLers:

The preamble to the DFL Constitution is our moral foundation. It commands us to “sustain and advance the principles of liberal democracy, uphold human rights, civil rights and constitutional government”.  In the Democratic Party Credo, the DFL alleges to believe in “a society where both public and private discrimination based upon race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, economic status, philosophical persuasion, or physical disability are condemned”. The DFL further alleges to believe in “[a] society where we recognize that the strengthening of the family and the protection of children are essential to the health of the nation”. Finally, the DFL alleges to believe “[t]his is our purpose and our promise”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow DFLers:

Our Party cannot advance human and civil rights by it’s support of mass abortion and the continuing moral disgrace of upwards to 50 million – I reiterate – FIFTY MILLION abortions since the United States Supreme Court federalized a previously unknown right of abortion in 1973. The DFL cannot claim to believe in a society free of discrimination by it’s support of the most violent form of discrimination, the killing of innocent life in utero. The DFL cannot claim to believe in a society that protects its children when it supports the mass killing of children in utero. The DFL cannot continue it’s support of mass abortion and the attendant degradation of the inherent value of innocent human life and maintain its credibility as the Party of human and civil rights.

I, therefore, assert: the DFL’s current position on the acceptance of mass abortion is fundamentally inconsistent and antithetical to it’s core principles.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow DFLers:

We must hold our Party accountable to its rightful claim of advancing human rights to those who cannot possibly speak for themselves – and to address the issue of abortion and euthanasia so that our Party can re-establish its credibility and that of our fundamental values.

I hereby present a proposal for a Pro-Life Caucus in the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota.

The Pro-Life Caucus must exist to foster respect for life, from the beginning of life to natural death. No man or woman – nor any government, without due process – may violate the sanctity of innocent human life, whether by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or murder.

We shall recognize that members of the Caucus believe that no woman should be forced to conceive if the pregnancy is a result of a criminal act, and differ on the subject of capital punishment.

We will state that no man, woman, nor any child be denied the basic dignity of adequate health care, food and nutrition, and clean, safe housing.

We will emphatically state that no one can be forced by law, edict, coercion, under false pretenses, nor against their religious, moral, or ethical beliefs be subjected to, provide, procure, finance or participate in abortion or euthanasia, or distribute abortifacients or euthanizing agents.

The DFL Pro-Life Caucus will recruit, support, endorse, and elect DFL candidates who believe in the foregoing and not to the exclusion of any part of our core beliefs.

The Pro-Life Caucus will educate members of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and the electorate about the ethical, moral, and religious issues concerning human life, abortion, and euthanasia.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow DFLers:

I appeal to the members of our Party to no longer remain silent. Those who who believe that abortion and euthanasia degrades our civil society must have a voice in the DFL.

Thank you for your attention.
