The Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis will “celebrate” Tony Kushner with three production in the 2008-2009 season: The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures; Caroline, or Change; and a collection of Kushner’s short plays.

How enlightening.

I give used to give $50 a year to the Guthrie Theatre. This is That was my contribution to the Threatre Arts in Minneapolis. I spoke with one of my cousins here, and she informed me that she’s disappointed that Mr. Joe Dowling has agreed to bring Tony Kushner to the Guthrie.

What?

Tony Kushner , the same one who has a reading in a “queer” siddur?

Yup, the same.

Perhaps the most radical changes are in the Sha’ar Zahav siddur in a collection of blessings meant to consecrate various life-cycle events. In addition to the traditional blessings over food and the like are prayers for the onset of puberty and menopause, a first kiss, taking an HIV test, being single and coming out regarding one’s sexual orientation. It also includes a prayer for gender transitions, first published last year by the Reform movement, as well as a prayer for anonymous sex titled “Kavanah for Unexpected Intimacy.”

CBST’s prayer book includes readings from poets such as Walt Whitman and Dylan Thomas, as well as from prominent gay Jews like the playwright Tony Kushner and the Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim.

You hear this? Saying Br’chus for anti-Jewish practices?

What??

Tony Kushner, the same one who is a boot-licking dimmi and sonderkommando?

Yup, the same.

In the press release about Kushner, Melodie Bahan and Lee Henderson of the Guthrie Theatre wrote:

Kushner is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, an Emmy Award, two Tony Awards, three Obie Awards, an Oscar nomination, an Arts Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the PEN/Laura Pels Award for a Mid-Career Playwright, a Spirit of Justice Award from the Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, and a Cultural Achievement Award from The National Foundation for Jewish Culture, among many others. Most recently, Caroline or Change, produced in the autumn of 2006 at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, received the Evening Standard Award, the London Drama Critics’ Circle Award and the Olivier Award for Best Musical. He is the subject of a documentary film, Wrestling with Angels: Playwright Tony Kushner, made by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Freida Lee Mock. He is currently working on a screenplay about Abraham Lincoln. He lives in Manhattan with his husband, Mark Harris.

“He lives in Manhattan with his husband, Mark Harris”?

The Guthrie Theatre is now officially engaged in the cultural wars with this vile attempt to redefine marriage and push the normalization of same-sex “marriages”, which are not legal in New York or Minnesota. They don’t exist.

If the Guthrie wants to put on this treif and push their postmodernist filth with their own money, that is their prerogative. If others are as disgusted as I am, they also have the right not to support the Gurthrie. If, however, the Guthrie receives public funding, they have no right or authority to use our money to normalize same sex “marriage” or present Kushner’s plays. The actions of Dowling, the Guthrie Threatre, and Bahan and Henderson’s use of language in the press release proves where the Gurthrie stands on the matter.

Today I left two voice mails for Melodie Bahan, giving her a piece of my mind. I recinded my pledge of $50 and will not contribute any further.

Write them letters, email, resecind your pledge. Boycott the Guthrie.

    Dear [Nachman],

I received your voice messages. Since you made it quite clear that nothing I could say would sway you, I see no point in returning the calls. I will pass along your comments to our artistic director.
