Confused about that one? A religious pro-abortion group?

No joke. It’s the Minnesota Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. It’s members are a group of the usual – and not so usual – suspects. The MNRCRC

seeks to ensure that every woman is free to make decisions about having children according to her own conscience and religious beliefs.

In other words, their religious beliefs demand that it is of no consequence if a woman kills her healthy child in utero for any reason whatsoever and has it thrown into the medical waste exercises one of her reproductive choice options.

Professor Sally Kenney, the Director of the Center on Women and Public Policy, and Professor J. Brian Atwood, the Dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, with all their learned abilities, may not be aware of the following clause in the Minnesota Constitution.

… money [shall not] be drawn from the treasury for the benefit of any religious societies or religious or theological seminaries.

Using taxpayer funds to give recognition a religious organization involved in political activity? Time spent during work at the University? The use of University facilities? Placing the advertisement in the Minnesota Women’s Press that costs $1,875 for a half-page, single-issue ad in color ad?

Here’s the letter I wrote.

Subject: 2008 Hubert H. Humphrey Institute Award

To: Professor Sally Kenney, Director, Center on Women and Public Policy, Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.

Madam,

In the May 28-June 10th edition of the Minnesota Women’s Press, there is a notice congratulating the “Minnesota Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice” for winning the 2008 Hubert H. Humphrey Institute’s Young Women’s Leadership Award.

Why is a taxpayer supported entity giving an award to a religious organization that promotes abortion?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
[redacted]

cc: Prof. J. Brian Atwood, Dean, Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs
